Amateur percussion and dance group Samba Olywa will hold a Samba Reggae rhythm workshop for dancers on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 5-7 p.m.
The workshop will be led by guest instructor Donna DonnaMation Pongetti at the Eagles Grand Ballroom, located at 4th and Plum streets in downtown Olympia.
People from different backgrounds and experiences are welcome at this workshop; no preregistration is necessary.
The workshop’s tuition is $5-$15 on a sliding scale; attendees may give what they can.
The workshop begins promptly at 5 p.m., and organizers ask that all participants arrive early to check-in.
The new dance routine will be used in Samba Olywa’s Procession of the Species routine in April 2025. Samba Olywa drummers will provide live music.
Dancers are encouraged to wear good, supportive shoes and be ready to sweat.
Samba Olywa is supported, in part, by a grant from Inspire Olympia and by participating drummers and dancers.
