Even as the Thurston County Auditor’s Office announced the November 7 General Election results today, it also declared that it will conduct a recount for the Rainier City Council Position No. 2 for candidates Damion Green and Ryan Roth.

According to the Auditor’s press release, Roth has a one-vote lead over Green with 247 to 246 votes.

“Roth won by one vote which is within the range requiring a mandatory hand recount to validate the results,” the Auditor’s statement explained. “A hand recount occurs if the vote difference is less than 150 and less than .25 of 1%.”

Roth and Green’s vote percentage difference was 0.2% of 1%.

Preparations will begin on Thursday, November 30, at 9 a.m., with the recount starting the next day at 9 a.m.

“The Thurston County Canvassing Board will meet on Friday, December 1 at 4 p.m. to certify the results of the recount,” the Auditor’s Office said in its press release.

Community members may inquire about viewing the canvassing board meeting or the recount at the Auditor’s website.
