Thurston County could get snow this weekend as colder temperatures are forecast to return, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services (TCPHSS) and the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle.
“Active weather will make a return Thursday night for increasing precipitation. In addition, a colder weather pattern will redevelop over the weekend with continued uncertainty regarding wintry precipitation,” TCPHSS said in a statement on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
NWS Seattle confirmed similar conditions: "Colder temperatures are expected to begin by this weekend. There may also be periods of precipitation coinciding with the colder temperatures.”
Despite the shift in weather, uncertainty surrounds the forecast, particularly regarding how cold it will get and the type of precipitation.
A NWS temperature outlook, which is valid from Feb. 2 to Feb. 6, shows rain and snow are possible depending on the conditions.
In a separate update, the NWS also warned that Western Washington may experience another round of colder temperatures with possible wintry precipitation starting on Saturday, Feb. 1.
“Exact timing and precipitation type are still uncertain at this time but will likely become more refined as we get closer to the event.” the NWS said.
Forecasts can change quickly and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant.
“Make sure to continue to monitor the forecast during the week as the forecast evolves.” the NWS advised.
More clarity on the weather pattern is expected within 48 hours, including detailed predictions of potential snowfall and other types of precipitation.
