Bruce Jay Powell - 1955-2024

Posted

Bruce Jay Powell passed away March 2, 2024, in Olympia, Washington.  He was 69 years old.  Bruce was one of 10 children of Keith and Nancy Powell (deceased) of Onalaska, Washington.  He graduated from Onalaska High School in 1975.

Several years later, Bruce moved to Olympia to enjoy life in the “city.”  Despite his learning disabilities, he was able to hold a job and live independently until 2019.  He loved Olympia!  He knew all the bus routes and how to get around on his own.  He enjoyed riding his bike to his brother’s business downtown and he always went to the Saturday farmer’s market, where he enjoyed the food and many friends there. Bruce thoroughly enjoyed time with his family, whether it was around holidays or just hanging out when someone was working on a car or a tractor.

He was a very social, lovable person with a big hearty laugh that could be heard for quite a distance.

Bruce is survived by his siblings, Dean Powell (Magda), Diane Glaze, Mike Powell (Liz), Alan Powell (Cindy), Jaclyn Knopf, Pam Kinsman (Roy), Jeffry Powell (Kathy); stepbrother, Dan Steele; sisters-in-law, Donnell Powell and Charlotte Powell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Keith; his stepfather, Archie Steele; brothers, Jon Powell and Philip Powell; and brothers-in-law, Alvin Glaze and Ronnie Knopf.

A graveside service for Bruce will be held at Shoestring Cemetery on Monday, March 11, 2024, 2 p.m., where he will be laid to rest next to his Grandparents and Mom and Dad.

Thank you to Morningside, South Sound Options, and Lavie Adult Family Care for their kindness and care for Bruce.

A donation may be made to the Onalaska Scholarship Fund in Bruce’s memory.
