The Black Hills High School Class of 2025 graduated in an evening ceremony at Hal and Inge Marcus Pavilion at Saint Martin's University in Lacey on Thursday, June 5.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Principal Dave Myers, followed by the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" and a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by the Black Hills High School bands. Principal Myers offered opening remarks to the graduating class and their guests.
Student speakers Lorena Cayo Slaughter and Krista Skinner shared personal reflections and messages of encouragement with their peers, while the Black Hills High School Advanced Choirs, directed by Kathleen Alviar, performed a beautiful rendition of "Over the Rainbow."
Faculty speaker Ayn Gore delivered a powerful message, sharing her personal journey of perseverance in achieving her own degree later in life, reminding students that the path to success is unique and never defined by a timeline.
A musical performance of "For Good" by students Emry Ison and Ivy Statler added to the evening’s emotion and celebration. Superintendent Kevin Bogatin formally presented the Class of 2025, followed by students receiving their diplomas.
Senior Class President Logan Larson and Vice President Ella Goheen led the ceremonial turning of the tassel, and the ceremony concluded with a joyful recessional to "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield.
