Lacey Police Department Detective Josh Dumont was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by American Legion Post 94.

Dumont received the award during Post 94's annual Law and Order Awards Banquet, according to a statement from Lacey City Manager Rick Walk on Thursday, Sept. 17.

The recognition followed Dumont's selection as the Lacey Police Department's 2025 Employee of the Year. Walk said the department honor showed the respect Dumont has earned from fellow officers and colleagues.

"It's always a great pleasure to see Lacey employees recognized for the work they do every day to serve our community," said Walk in the statement. "Detective Dumont represents the kind of dedicated, compassionate, and committed public servant we are fortunate to have serving the City of Lacey."

Dumont has served with the Lacey Police Department for 11 years. Before that, he spent five years with the County of Hawaii Police Department.

He works as a lead investigator with the Capital Metro Independent Investigations Team and as a Northwest Internet Crimes Against Children investigator.

His other assignments include being a department less-lethal instructor, Thurston County Dive Team member and peer support officer. He previously worked as a field training officer.

Dumont's Employee of the Year nomination pointed to his leadership and willingness to assist other officers.

"But what really stood out in his Employee of the Year nomination was his positive leadership and willingness to help others," said Walk in the statement.

"Whether mentoring a new officer through a search warrant application or helping colleagues navigate the demands of a complex investigation, Detective Dumont is described as a steady, measured voice of reason."

Walk thanked Dumont for his service to colleagues, the Lacey Police Department and the city.
