In the early hours of Wednesday, June 19, a routine traffic stop near Marvin Road escalated into a pursuit involving the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) and a suspect vehicle.

According to the TSCO post, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driving without taillights, prompting the driver to perform a U-turn and flee.

The pursuit continued onto northbound I-5 until exit 122, where the suspect vehicle struck a Washington Department of Transportation (WADOT) sign while attempting to exit the freeway.

Though the pursuing deputy couldn't safely take the exit, they maintained visual contact with the suspects as additional units arrived.

Responding deputies apprehended a male suspect near the vehicle.

With the assistance of Lakewood Police and their K9 unit, a female suspect was located hiding in the bushes after running down the on-ramp.

“The female was carrying a backpack with cannabis, oxy pills, and a scale. A stolen gun also fell out of the backpack,” TCSO stated.

The female suspect was booked for possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of a stolen firearm.

The male had a warrant for attempting to elude out of Pierce County and a DOC felony escape warrant for Assault 2nd degree,” TCSO reported.

A search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of cannabis and evidence linking the suspects to a recent armed robbery at a local cannabis dispensary.

The male suspect was booked for possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

The investigation of the two suspects is ongoing.

Thank you to our regional partners for their assistance and our awesome Thurston 911 dispatchers,” said TCSO, for assisting with the pursuit and connecting some of the dots with the stolen cannabis.”
