Voters approve regular and replacement school levies -- except Yelm

Rochester School District's bond issue fails to get 60% approval

Posted

Voters authorized all of the regular and replacement levies in seven of eight Thurston County school districts in Tuesday, February 13 special election.

As of the unofficial count on Thursday, only 47% of voters in the Yelm Community Schools area approved the levy.

According to its plans, Rochester School District's $89.2 million bond issue failed to reach 60% approval, so the district will not be building a new high school or making hoped-for safety and security upgrades at its primary and middle schools.

Regular and replacement levies require only a simple majority of yes votes, or 50 percent plus one vote, to pass.

Of the 196,769 voters registered in the county, 66,345 or 33.72% voted in this election, according to the Thurston County Auditor.

Here are vote count details as reported by the Thurston County Auditor today:

Mea culpa. I misread the Yelm results and have updated the story.
