Two men arrested today over alleged Tumwater shooting on Sunday

Two men were arrested this afternoon in connection with an alleged shooting in Tumwater over the weekend.

Lt. Jennifer Kolb of Tumwater police told The JOLT that Levi Ramirez and Quentin Deuel were nabbed after a seven-hour standoff in the 3900 block of Balsam Avenue in Olympia, where they were traced by authorities.

Kolb said that on Sun., Jan. 23, Tumwater police were called to a reported weapons violation and shooting at Lincoln Creek Lumber on 93rd Avenue in Tumwater.

The shooting victim told police that she met with Ramirez, her ex-boyfriend, to exchange items, but the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun on her and ordered her to get inside his car.

The woman fled, and Ramirez allegedly fired shots at her car before leaving the scene.

Kolb said Ramirez, a convicted felon, had no right to possess a  gun. Deuel, meanwhile, was in the car with him.

Sequence of events today

Early this morning, Kolb said, Tumwater police learned of the suspects’ location in Olympia.

Olympia police set up a perimeter around the house at about 6:50 a.m. but the two men refused to come out. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT team and the county’s Hostage Negotiating Team also assisted in the arrest.

Kolb said that by the time all were assembled, some 30 officers and over a dozen vehicles were at the scene. Balsam Avenue was also shut down between Sleater Kinney Road and Coulter Street.

The standoff concluded at around 1:45 p.m. The suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Ramirez was booked at the Thurston County Jail for first-degree assault, drive-by shooting, attempted kidnapping, and possession of a firearm. Deuel was booked on rendering criminal assistance.
