Tumwater is calling out kids and parents to come out and play in its spring baseball league.

In a press release, the city’s Parks & Recreation Department is inviting kids from K to 5th grade to register and play in its three divisions, namely K/1, 2/3 and 4/5 this coming spring.

“This league’s focus is on individual and team skill development,” Tumwater said on its website, “with an emphasis on fundamentals, sportsmanship, and fun while playing the great game of baseball.”

Parents can register their children online starting today until Friday, February 24, with a $100 registration fee which will go up to $110 after the deadline if slots are still open.

Learners for the Tumwater School District are prioritized, the city said, although out-of-district players will still be accepted.

According to Tumwater’s Youth Baseball page, registered players will be assigned to their teams on March 19, with practice starting the following day to be held twice weekly, usually weeknights, including Saturdays.

“Players may or may not be placed on the same team or with the same coach as last year,” the city cautioned.

Tumwater added that it would provide the players’ uniforms and equipment except for the gloves.

The city added that scholarships are also available to children who qualify, but the required forms and 50% of the registration fee must be submitted by Friday, February 17.

“Contact the Parks & Recreation Department for more details: Call (360) 754-4160 or email staff,” the city encouraged.

Tumwater also sent out a call for volunteer coaches for the league who will have a coaches’ meeting Thursday, March 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Tumwater Fire Department Training Room. Interested parents and community members can download the Coach’s Packet for more information.

“The Tumwater Baseball league cannot operate without volunteer involvement,” the city said.
