Transient man sought refuge in hospitals, winds up in jail

A transient man was arrested for refusing to leave the Capital Medical Center last Sunday.

Peter Davis, 45, had been voluntarily seen by a Designated Crisis Responder (DCR) on May 2 for concern about suicidal ideations but had been cleared by the DCR as not being at risk of endangering himself.  Police reported that Davis had also been to Providence St. Peter Hospital property for the same issue and determined that he had trespassed there as well.

Once Davis had been cleared by a DCR, CMC had asked Davis to exit the building and Davis refused to leave the medical bed in the hallway that he was laying on.

A medical staff member approached Davis with his clothes and discharged papers while Davis was lying on the bed. He also asked Davis to leave. Davis made several physical motions which suggested that he was going to strike the staff member.

Olympia Police arrived and several officers attempted to communicate with Davis, who refused to answer or acknowledge any of them. Officers noted that Davis had fully interacted with CMC staff previously and was deemed competent to understand what was said to him, but would not communicate at all with law enforcement.

It took several officers to place Davis under arrest, who twisted his torso, pulled away, and shrieked despite the limited pressure that Olympia Police placed on him. Davis was booked into the Olympia Jail for trespass.
