Traffic to get even slower for two weeks at Tumwater’s Capitol-and-Trosper intersection

Posted

Expect traffic to slow down at the Capitol Boulevard SE and Trosper Road SW intersection the following two weeks, Monday to Friday, January 30 to February 10, as Tumwater announced that there will be lane closures along the area.

In a press release, the city said that crews would begin underground utility installation work for the I-5/Trosper Road/Capitol Boulevard Reconfiguration Project.

“Work will include saw cutting, pavement removal, concrete panel demolition, excavation and trenching, and sanitary sewer installation,” Tumwater added.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the city said, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. During the nighttime hours of 6 p.m. – 6 a.m., traffic will be reduced to a one-lane alternating, flagger-controlled work zone, as required.

“Drivers should expect traffic congestion and delays. Please drive slowly through the work zone and use alternate routes where possible, said the city. “All scheduled road construction projects are subject to change due to weather, equipment, and project delays.

I’ve lived in Seattle, so I know bad traffic. That intersection has never struck me as congested or an issue, it’s just focal point and thus sees higher traffic. It’s hilarious that the City will now go through a process of snarling traffic horribly for a significant period of time, and in the long run all it will have done is reconfigured the high traffic and (maybe) achieved some marginal gains in efficiency.
