By Sew Many Stars Collective and Nicole Turner

Posted

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts will host an exhibition of quilts and textile arts titled “Traditions and New Stories” by Sew Many Stars Collective and Nicole Turner from December 5, 2024, to January 26, 2025.

The Sew Many Stars Collective will showcase a diverse range of quilting techniques representing a variety of styles from traditional to modern and art quilts.

Turner's experimental textiles, created using recycled materials, challenge traditional notions of fiber arts as "women's work." Her work aims to highlight the value of textiles in society and assert their place as a legitimate art form within a traditional arts context.

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts' three-floor gallery is open to the public for viewing by appointment. By contacting info@washingtoncenter.org, appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 12 to 4 p.m. The gallery is also open to ticketed patrons one hour before scheduled events.
