If getting together with business friends and acquaintances isn't enough of a reason to participate, organizers of the Thurston Economic Development Council's new event are dangling the chance to dunk a local official or business leader.
The Thurston EDC's Hootenanny will feature an outdoor barbeque party, music, a mechanical bull, corn hole contest, awards and, if anyone with a good pitching arm shows up, some dunkings. It’s this Thu., July 22 from 3-6 p.m. It's open to the public.
The event will celebrate and promote local businesses and honor some with Economic Courage Awards.
Economic Courage Awards are planned for businesses that have shown resilience and creativity despite the challenges brought by the pandemic. The Thurston EDC explained that “Economic courage could be defined as a leader, a business, non-profit and or organization that, while facing economic uncertainty and a radical retraction of “business as usual,” took extraordinary steps to provide a service, a product, and or a support service.” Such businesses showed the ability to “adapt, change and thrive during a time of uncertainty.”
To join, participants need to register and pay a $50 fee for each person. (Mechanical bull and dunking shots are a little extra!) The Hootenanny will take place at the Thurston EDC Center for Business & Innovation, 4220 6th Ave. SE, Lacey WA 98503.
