The Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts (TCMFA) is accepting applications until March 15 from contributing artists for its annual spring group exhibition, "Labyrinths."
The show runs from April 25-27 at 120 Olympia AVE NE, Olympia , during the Olympia Arts Walk. Other open dates will be announced.
"As opposed to a maze, the labyrinth's path is not intersected by other paths. There are no choices to be made, and the path inevitably leads to, and ends at, the center," the exhibit’s website states.
The exhibit is open to artists working with various mediums, including, but not limited to, visual art, performance, music, new media, old media and the written word.
The organizers describe Labyrinths as a symbol of mysticism and revelation dating back millennia and encountered worldwide, which may represent and facilitate humanity's highest impulses: self-discovery, rumination, meditation and reflexive cognition.
“It can also symbolize the agonizing triviality of mortality, an unrelenting march towards an inevitable end,” the website states.
The organizers request artists’ interpretation of the labyrinth, whether metaphorical or literal.
Organizers encourage interested artists to learn more and apply through the TCMFA website.
The submission form asks for personal details, an artist statement and art submissions.
All selected contributing artists are offered an honorarium of $100 to help offset the costs associated with participation.
TCMFA is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization “dedicated to activating vacant and underutilized commercial spaces by transforming them into free-to-enter, public art spaces.”
