Advice from A Lexis

Three lessons from an unexpected week

Posted

Dear Reader,

Last week was very unusual for my family and me. My husband and I participated in a seven-day workshop about embracing success. Then our entire family was diagnosed with COVID-19. Suffice it to say, we’ve had our ups and downs. However, despite the challenges, I did manage to figure out three interesting things that I want to share with you.

Getting your head trash sorted is a must

Noah St. John was our guide on this seminar journey last week. All things considered, I expected a bit more practical information from the seminar, but given the focus was on priming the mind for success, I got my money’s worth. Something that he got 100% right though was just how necessary it is for us to work on getting our heads clear of garbage before we set off on a task.

It can be very challenging at times to force yourself to get to work, something I’ve struggled with for years given my aim for self-employment. We often don’t think about how our heads play a role in our lives, but getting rid of unhelpful beliefs and perspectives is essential to success. I’ve always known that something was getting in my way, but it wasn’t until I heard about St. John’s Afformations™ that I got a better understanding of how to remove these thought barriers.

I’ve always known that questions were a powerful thing, but it never occurred to me to ask questions about things that weren’t necessarily already true. However, as I started to utilize questions like, “why do I have so many bestsellers?” and “why am I always inspired to work and write?” I started to scrape back some of the motivation that has so often evaded me. Sure, there’s plenty of room left for improvement, but a journey always starts with the first step.

Action really is king if you want to accomplish anything

We all know this to some degree, but I don’t know that we often remember how important it is to just put one foot in front of another. Every failure brings you one step closer to your desired path, and every inch you gain is a step closer to the success you desire.

Perhaps you don’t struggle with this the way I do, but it still bears keeping in mind. Taking action toward your personal goals every day, no matter how small the action, will inevitably land you in the place you want to be. Just keep going and you can’t help but get there, anything else is impossible.

Accountability coaching is the real money maker

I expected a little bit more “how-to” from the seven-day sprint we took with Noah, but as the days progressed and I saw all the positive feedback from the other participants, I started to realize that information wasn’t the only thing that makes Noah a good coach.

Yes, he has some great information, Afformations™ is perhaps one of the most brilliant discoveries I’ve ever heard of in regard to self-improvement, but his ability to aid lies primarily in his ability to encourage action and motivate it with reward. He gives an expected timetable, provides actionable steps to take each day (homework), and offered a potential prize for one lucky participant who did all the assignments.

Sure, these steps won’t necessarily change your life on their own, but they did help all of us move toward a better mindset, and therefore aid us in finding the motivation to move forward and keep pushing for our dreams.

Having a coach to report your progress to does a lot toward keeping you in check, and the more money someone invests in the effort to find their motivation, the more intrinsically motivated people actually become. It’s weird to think about, but this concept has been proven true over and over.

We all have things we want to accomplish in life and keeping these simple truths at the forefront of our minds can be extremely helpful in that regard. These truths aren’t always easy or fun to utilize, but they are important to remember when you have something that you need to accomplish. Master these three things and there will be no telling what you can accomplish in your lifetime.

Reach out and let me know what you think about these lessons and let me know about some moments when you came to a similar realization. If you have any questions about this topic, let me know, or ask another question if you prefer.

Best of luck,
