Advice from a Lexis

Three formulas to help you change your beliefs

Posted

Dear Lexis,

I understand the value behind examining beliefs and shifting those you don’t think serve you, but I’m lost on how exactly to implement changes. Re-determining beliefs is all well and good, but if you can’t get yourself to believe them, are you really making any change? What advice do you have for implementing change?

          ~ Practical

Dear Practical,

Good question! That one took me a while to figure out myself. However, as I’ve worked to discover potential methods, I’ve found several methods that can help you shift beliefs.

Fair warning, while shifting beliefs can have a dramatic effect on your life, the change is actually very subtle. It might make sense to write down the changes you’re wanting to make and then revisit the beliefs after a time to see if they took, and how well.

Here are three approaches I've used:

  1. Governing Meridian Energy Release

The governing meridian, also called the governing vessel meridian, is a vessel that runs up the center of your body (around the head from the nose and down to the coccyx). As such, it’s a powerful energy center and can help you implement change.

Don’t ask me how this works, it still boggles my mind, but it’s definitely worth trying. I got rid of a severe allergy with this method.

This method was introduced to me via The Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson. He utilizes this method for all kinds of things, but when it comes to beliefs the process is pretty simple.

  1. Consider the negative belief you want to release.
  2. Run a magnet, or your finger, from the center of your forehead to the base of your neck three times.
  3. Consider the belief you would like to embed in your life.
  4. Run a magnet, or your finger, along the same path three times.

   2. Kinesthetic Reprogramming

  1.

This method was introduced to me by Dr. Bruce Lipton and Robert M. Williams via a Psych-K video. Essentially the process is to trick the brain with novel movement into releasing old beliefs and adopting new ones. Like the meridian exercise, the process is pretty simple.

  1. Sit and cross your arms and legs (dominant over non-dominant).
  2. Close your eyes and think about the belief that you want to implement.
  3. Acknowledge and release any objections that pop up until the new beliefs rings true without resistance.
  1. Logic and Repetition

While not my favorite method, if nothing else seems appealing to you, you always have the option of utilizing logic and repetition to shift your beliefs. It’s a slow process comparatively but, if you stick with it, this method never fails.

Essentially, you bully your mind by relentlessly repeating the belief until you no longer think of objections. It can take a while but, over time, you will inevitably start to shift.

If you’re still struggling to shift beliefs with these methods, consider making smaller shifts. Your brain puts up a lot of barriers around your beliefs in an effort to protect you so you may need to work with it a bit. You can utilize Abraham Hicks' focus wheel (write the belief you have along the edge and the belief you want in the middle, then connect the two with things you believe that move you in the direction of the new belief).

Be gentle with yourself if the process feels slow, I promise that change is happening. While it might not feel like it, one day you’re going to look back and realize just how different your life has become.

Good luck,
