Sunday at the park: drunk and confused, police say

Tumwater police were dispatched to intercept an intoxicated man who had gotten into a brawl with nearby park goers and was attempting to drive out of the parking lot on Sun., June 27 just after 6 p.m.

Police report that they arrived to deal with a physical disturbance at Pioneer Park and were waived down by six to 10 people at the east end of the parking lot. The dispatch call had said that two men were fighting in the parking lot.

Trevor Kingslee Bristow, 24, wearing no shirt and red shorts, began running south away from officers despite being told twice to stop. An officer running after Bristow was assisted by a park bystander who grabbed onto Bristow as he ran.

According to the police report, Bristow appeared to be highly intoxicated and smelled of intoxicants. His speech was slurred and very repetitive.

Witnesses told TPD that Bristow had been driving his Ford Expedition through the parking lot and had nearly hit someone. Bristow’s female passenger, Angelica Cole-Piffero, had allegedly switched into the driver’s seat, then attempted to park the vehicle, side-swiping a parked car. Cole-Piffero fled on foot but returned later to the scene.

Cole-Piffero told TPD that she and Bristow had been arguing because he wanted to drive and she thought he was intoxicated.

Cole-Piffero said that she parked the Ford without hitting anything “not even a bump” despite an officer pointing out the paint transfer between the Ford and another vehicle to Cole-Piffero. Police say she said, “that’s old damage from before we bought it.” When asked why she fled on foot from the point of the collision, Cole-Piffero said that she didn’t know about the collision until an officer pointed it out, but that her anxiety from the fight between Bristow and a bystander made her afraid of the police.

Cole-Piffero also admitted that she did not have insurance, but did have a valid driver’s license.

Bristow made several comments to police that “I am drunk as f**k” and “I am probably double the limit” and “I am way over (the limit).”

During the preliminary breath test at the scene, Bristow blew a .191. During the Draeger at the Tumwater Police Department, Bristow blew a .207.  Washington state’s blood alcohol limit is .08.

Bristow was booked into the Nisqually jail for driving under the influence, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and driving while license suspended.
