What would have been unimaginable six weeks ago is actual news this week:  An abundance of COVID-19 vaccines are available -- and will expire if not given to people in the next few days.

Thurston County Public Health reports that they have more than 800 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine available.

“We really hope people will come after work, school, or sports to get vaccinated. It’s easy and fast. Wait times are not long and people do not need an advance appointment,” said Thurston County Public Health Director Schelli Slaughter.

Thursday, May 6:   Walk-up Clinic

8:30 a.m. to Noon at 412 Lilly Road NE in Olympia (the Thurston County Public Health and Social Services building).  This is an indoor clinic with wheelchair accessibility.

Thursday through Sunday

8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Drive-through clinic at South Puget Sound Community College, 2011 Mottman Rd SW in west Olympia. Pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit, and motorcycles are welcome, too! All mothers getting vaccinated are promised a bouquet of flowers, according to the county.

Vaccinations for 16- and 17-year-olds

Youth ages 16-17 require consent from a parent or guardian. All minors 16 and 17 years old must receive parent or guardian consent to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. This can be done online by registering for an appointment or at the time of vaccination. Parents or guardians do not have to be present at the time of vaccination if they signed the consent form online during registration.

Appointments are reported to take approximately 30 minutes from start to finish, which includes a 15-minute post-vaccine wait time.

To pre-register for a vaccination, visit the county's COVID-19 web page or call the vaccine helpline at 360-867-2610.
