South Puget Sound Community College announced the hiring of Emme Price as the head volleyball coach.

“The knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm Emme presented throughout the interview process gave us all the comfort that it was the right fit,” SPSCC Athletic Director Vernell Willingham said.

In college, Price played at State University of New York at Potsdam. Price, who uses the pronouns they/them, was team captain during they final season at Potsdam.

Following graduation, Price embarked on a coaching career in 2022 as an assistant coach at SUNY Plattsburgh, where the team qualified for the SUNY Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since 2013.

In 2024, Price was hired as the co-head coach at Nichols College, where they coached the men’s and women’s volleyball teams.

During that time, the men’s team won the New England Volleyball championship and advanced to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time in program history, SPSCC said in the announcement.

“I see the potential with the growing program here,” Price said. “ I could not be more excited for what the program can become.”

Since 2023, the SPSCC volleyball team has qualified for the Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship tournament, but was eliminated in the regional round.

Price said the plan is to help take the team further into the postseason this year.

“My short-term expectation for the team is to help in the overall individual growth we can put in one season at a time,” Price said.

“I want them to be able to push themselves and accomplish what they set out to do as volleyball players. In the long term, I expect the foundations built on individual growth will help us to become a top competitive force in the NWAC.”
