On Monday, December 27, a blockage in a sanitary sewer line on Somerset Drive SW caused an estimated 735 gallons of sewage to discharge into the City of Tumwater stormwater system, and then into Percival Creek.
As a result of the spill, Public Health officials are asking the public (and their pets) to avoid contact with the water in Percival Creek, Capitol Lake, and inner Budd Inlet until 9 a.m. Thursday, December 30.
[Percival Creek flows from Tumwater through the South Puget Sound Community College campus, through the southwest side of west Olympia and then into Capitol Lake.]
The spill was confirmed by the City of Tumwater at approximately 9 a.m. Monday, December 27. City Public Works staff immediately removed the blockage and restored normal flow to the system. Since the majority of the sewage immediately entered the stormwater system and then Percival Creek, no sewage could be recovered.
