As part of its Senior Nutrition Program this Thanksgiving, Senior Services for South Sound will hold community mid-day meals at various locations next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, November 19-21.
The Thanksgiving meals expected from the event are turkey, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and dessert.
“Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the US, which first remembered the sharing in a harvest feast between Plymouth colonists and the Native American Wampanoag people. But the holiday has been met with great controversy with many believing that Thanksgiving Day masks real historical accounts of betrayal, bloodshed, and oppression,” stated the organization’s November newsletter.
Senior Services recognizes the “power of food in bringing people together,” as today's Americans focus on delicious bounty shared with family and friends.
The newsletter stated, “We hope you can join us for lunch as we give thanks to our seniors and partners who help us achieve our mission."
The schedule of the communal meals at each center is around 11 a.m. from November 19-21.
