THE SAGE CONNECTION

Senior Action Network is in high gear with many upcoming events

Posted

Thurston County's own Senior Action Network (SAN), fresh off a successful Senior Day at Capital Lakefair event, is already hard at work on other upcoming events.

SAN member Revel Lacey hosted a Teacher Appreciation Happy Hour for teachers and retirees on August 1.

SAN members are also showing their support for students by accepting donated school supplies for The Little Red School House Project. You can drop off composition notebooks, graph paper, Fiskars scissors, glue sticks, crayons and more at their concierge desk from August 1 through the 8th. Revel Lacey Retirement Center is located at 211 Hoh St. SE, Lacey.

On August 9, SAN members at The Firs, Brookdale East, Sequoia, and Garden Courte will jointly host the Lilly Road Garden Party. All their chefs are joining together to create some wonderful BBQ, plus there will be live entertainment from 3 to 6 p.m. and raffle drawings. This year all proceeds from the raffle will be going to Rebuilding Together Thurston County. Everyone is welcome.

Krystal Apple from Assured Home Health Olympia is part of the committee that is producing this year’s Live Long, Live Well Health and Wellness Expo on September 19. If you are new to the community, have recently had health-related changes, or have age-related questions and/or needs, this is where you can find the answers. More details can be found at  https://sanolympia.org/

On October 24 SAN will host its 24th annual Outstanding Caregiver Dinner Event.

According to Natalya Rubel, founder and owner of Above Home Health, There are over 14 million hospital discharges of adults 65 and older. We know that 20% of those patients will readmit within 30 days. The readmission rate increases with patient age and number of chronic illnesses.

Home care can play a critical role in the patient’s success. Those receiving home care after hospital discharge are significantly less likely to be readmitted compared to those without such support.”

Not all caregivers are paid professionals. Many are spouses, family members, volunteers, and/or friends, sometimes at the expense of their own well-being. It is important to learn when it is time to ask for help...and where to find it.

Lynessa Stone from Advanced Health Care says she needs your help to Help us RECOGNIZE, NOMINATE AND CELEBRATE these unsung heroes within our community.”

Do you know a special caregiver (CNA, NAR, HCA, family, friend, or volunteer) who deserves to be recognized and appreciated for theabove and beyondcare that they provide?

Nominations are now OPEN for outstanding caregivers in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties.

The Senior Action Network members want to hear stories of the positive impact that these outstanding caregivers have made. Nominations for the 24th Annual SAN Outstanding Caregiver Awards are now open through September 13. Forms can be submitted online or downloaded and submitted by mail to SAN, P.O. Box 12212, Olympia WA 98508.

Nomination forms and tickets for the dinner can be found at the following link. https://sanolympia.org/2024-outstanding-caregiver-nomination/

And the Money Goes to…

Did you know that SAN has a financial gifting program that provides help to seniors through donations and money raised from events and membership dues? In the past, funds have been distributed for utility and rent assistance, building ramps, dentures, dental help, and more. You can donate at any time via the website.
