Thurston Sheriff officers arrested Rainier woman after she allegedly threw a metal chair at her boyfriend’s car during a fight, causing the windshield to shatter, while their daughter was inside.
A Sheriff’s deputy said the suspect, 29, was arrested on March 6 after her boyfriend reported the incident to police.
The boyfriend told authorities that he and his girlfriend had been arguing all day. Not wanting to be around the suspect, the boyfriend said he began loading their daughter into his car, a 1991 Honda Civic.
The suspect then attempted to take his removable steering wheel, as she had allegedly done previously, the boyfriend said.
The boyfriend said he managed to get his steering wheel back, at which point the suspect allegedly grabbed a red metal chair and threw it into the windshield of his car, causing it to dent and shatter.
The suspect began crying, her boyfriend said, while he and their daughter took a different vehicle to leave the house.
A Sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene and observed a Honda Civic with a shattered windshield and a large dent on the driver’s side. There were also two red metal chairs in front of the car, the deputy said.
Authorities initially spoke to the homeowner, the boyfriend’s father, who said they were not home at the time of the alleged incident.
The suspect told a Sheriff’s deputy that she and her boyfriend had an argument that escalated when they got home but denied any physical altercation aside from her pulling the steering wheel.
She admitted to throwing the chair into her boyfriend’s car and said she did not think that their daughter was at risk when she did it. It was not immediately clear from the deputy’s report whether the daughter was hurt or not.
The report did not state where the child was seated in the car during the altercation. Police have yet to secure a formal statement from the boyfriend.
The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for third-degree malicious mischief.
