Possible housing code changes on the horizon

Posted

Changes to Olympia’s housing code will be considered at Monday’s meeting of the city’s Planning Commission. Possible code revisions concern accessory dwelling units (ADUs), duplexes, triplexes and courtyard apartments. The city received many public comments on its proposed code changes between July and September of this year.

While commission staff previously recommended increasing the maximum size of ADUs from 800 square feet to 1,000 square feet, its staff now advocates keeping the maximum size to 800 square feet.

Commission staff also recommends that duplexes be allowed on corner lots wherever there are single family residences.

This meeting will also cover a briefing on the county’s draft climate mitigation plan.

The planning commission meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 pm.
