A police chase on the night of July 26 concluded with the arrest of two individuals following an attempted traffic stop by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO).
“One of our deputies attempted to stop a pickup truck for equipment violations in Lawrence Lake. The driver fled, and a pursuit was initiated,” TCSO stated in its post.
The chase led the deputy down Lawrence Lake Road and then north onto Smith Prairie Road.
A second deputy stationed on Smith Prairie Road deployed spike strips, successfully disabling the truck's tires.
Despite the damage, the truck continued moving at a reduced speed before eventually crashing into a decorative gate and hitting a tree.
Both the driver, identified as Travis Ryan Abad, and the passenger surrendered, after the crash.
“The driver had multiple warrants, to include a felony escape warrant out of DOC for identity theft. The passenger had a warrant out of Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for four counts of drug dealing and possessing a gun without a permit,” TCSO reported.
Both individuals are now in custody, with the driver brought to the Thurston County Jail and booked for the charges of driving under the influence, attempt to elude pursuing police vehicle, manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to distribute imitation controlled substance, and third-degree driving while license suspended.
