Yelm voters to determine fate of Proposition 1 in upcoming special election

Posted

A special election is being held next month for voters within the jurisdiction of Yelm Community Schools (YCS).

Voters will be determing the fate of Proposition 1,  Replacement Educational Programs and Operations Levy.

Due to ongoing upgrades at the Thurston County Ballot Processing Facility, Thurston and Pierce counties formed an inter-local agreement for the Pierce County Auditor’s office to conduct a special election for YCS on Feb. 11, 2025.

Pierce County serves around 20,000 Thurston County voters residing within YCS jurisdiction.

Ballots were mailed to YCS military and overseas voters on Jan. 10, 2025; other voters should receive their ballots around Jan. 24, 2025. A local voters’ pamphlet will be included in the ballot packets.

Five drop boxes in the YCS district will be open during the election cycle:

  • Lackamas Elementary
  • Nisqually Tribal Admin Building
  • Rainier City Hall
  • Yelm Schools Administration
  • Roy City Hall (Pierce County)

For voters needing replacement ballots or questions, contact Elections@PierceCountyWa.gov or call 253-798-8683.

Inquiries may also be sent to Thurston County Elections at 360-786-5408 or elections@co.thurston.wa.us from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. on 8 p.m. on election night.

More details are available on Pierce County’s web page.
