Our world is re-opening starting Monday: Phase 2 begins

Looser restrictions on restaurants, gyms, theaters and other

Thurston County will enter Phase 2 of Washington’s Roadmap to Recovery plan starting Monday, after the state made adjustments to safety metrics and requirements.

Now, rather than having to meet four criteria for a county to move from one phase of lockdown to the next, they have to meet three of four. The metrics are:

  1. trend in case rate,
  2. trend in hospital admissions rate,
  3. percent ICU occupancy and
  4. percent positivity.

Three of those metrics must be trending in a positive direction to stay in Phase 2; otherwise, a county may regress back into Phase 1, according to Gov. Jay Inslee’s office.

Several elements of the lockdown are slightly loosened in Phase 2. Among them are: Restaurants may have indoor occupancy of 25 percent; indoor gyms may have 25 percent occupancy, five people can gather indoors for social gatherings and up to 15 can gather outdoors.

“We are getting closer to finding our way out of this mess, but we aren’t there yet,” Inslee said during a press conference Thursday. “We have sacrificed too much to let our frustrations get the best of us now when the finish line is in sight, however distant that may seem in our field of vision.”

Other counties entering phase 2 include Snohomish, King, Lewis, Pierce, Pacific and Grays Harbor.
