The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney has filed charges against an Olympia man who allegedly hit his adult daughter and her boyfriend with a wooden paddle after he caught them in flagrante delicto in her apartment, causing injuries.

The suspect, 42, was charged with felony harassment with threat to kill and fourth-degree assault, according to a charging document dated Nov. 9.

Olympia police arrested the suspect on Sun., Nov. 7, after his daughter, 18, reported that he had a knife and was threatening to kill her and her boyfriend inside her apartment.

The daughter told police that her boyfriend decided to stay the night on Nov. 6, and the next morning, they were having sexual intercourse when her father burst into the bedroom. The father frequently visited her apartment but arrived this time unexpectedly.

The daughter said her father was not aware that she had a boyfriend and that she was sexually active.

Upon entering the bedroom, the daughter said, her father allegedly began hitting her and her boyfriend with a wooden paddle.

The daughter added that when the suspect left the bedroom, she and her boyfriend blocked the door to prevent him from reentering, then heard him yelling that he was going to kill them both, followed by sound of shuffling through the silverware area.

The suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and attempted to reenter the bedroom, according to the daughter, who also said that the suspect called a friend asking for something to be brought to the apartment.

The boyfriend, meanwhile, told police that he and his girlfriend were having sexual intercourse when the bedroom door burst open and he began getting hit by a large wooden paddle by a male who he assumed was his girlfriend’s father.

The boyfriend said his girlfriend warned him that her father sometimes stayed in her apartment and was “extremely crazy.”

When the suspect exited the bedroom, the couple briefly discussed the boyfriend possibly jumping out the window.

The daughter and her boyfriend separately told police that they believed they would have suffered some form of “extreme” bodily harm if law enforcement had not intervened. The suspect had also been assaultive to his daughter in the past, she added.

Police noted that the daughter had a “large knot” on her left leg while the boyfriend had a fresh half-inch cut on one of his legs.

The suspect told police that he went to his daughter’s apartment without notifying anyone that he was coming. Upon arriving, he said, he heard noises from the back room and realized that his daughter was having sex, causing him to become upset.

The suspect said he had a knife but claimed that he never actually armed himself.

The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for felony harassment with threats to kill, fourth-degree assault domestic violence, and fourth-degree assault.
