Former Washington State Senator Karen Fraser will receive the fourth Daniel J. Evans Nisqually Stewardship Award, the Nisqually River Foundation announced.
The foundation will host the award presentation and a dinner at Wilcox Family Farms in Roy, WA, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10. Tickets are available here.
According to an announcement from the Foundation, The Evans Award is presented only once every five years “to an individual or organization who has demonstrated tremendous leadership in the stewardship of the Nisqually Watershed.”
Fraser’s curriculum vitae includes former senator, Thurston County Commissioner, and Nisqually River Task Force Chair. She “is a founding member of the Nisqually River Council and a lifelong advocate for environmental protections,” stated the announcement. “We are delighted to honor her many years of work on behalf of the Nisqually Watershed,” the announcement added.
According to the Nisqually River Council website, previous awardees include inaugural recipient Billy Frank, Jr. in 2007, Congressman Norm Dicks (2012), and Jim Wilcox (2019).
The Nisqually River Foundation supports the Nisqually River Council which implements the Nisqually Watershed Stewardship Plan, which outlines sustainability goals for the lands, waters and communities of the Nisqually watershed.

Might be off-topic but she's a great person as well. Down to earth: sat on a rug with me and some other students learning a foreign language night after night, I had no idea she was a Senator.

I wish we had more elected officials of Senator Fraser's caliber nowadays. She not only served with integrity, she had class. Those qualities are sadly lacking in public servants we see in the news. Those who do have those qualities are overlooked and never seen in the media.
