The National Honors Society (NHS) inducted some local students into their organization Thursday, March 10,  at North Thurston High School, Lacey.

Recognized for their accomplishments in their school and community, the students were given a certificate and asked to pledge themselves to the NHS, their school, and "maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character," with their family witnessing the event.

Honor Society officers Isabella Matakas, Chloe Yi, Vinnie Nguyen, Shanelle Carbonel, Celeste Baez and Camille Marquez led the students to their oath-taking, making them members of an organization with a million members in "50 states, US Territories, Canada, and around the world," according to the NHS website.

North Thurston Assistant Principal Amber Slosson gave a speech on behalf of the school.

Founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the NHS encourages its student-members to contribute to their community.
