Carolina Mejia, democratic challenger for Thurston County Commissioner District 1, took a commanding lead in the polls tonight over Republican challenger C. Davis.

With 61.44 percent of votes counted as of 8 p.m., Mejia leads with 61.07 percent to Davis’ 38.63 percent.

According to the 2020 election voting guide, Mejia is dedicated to issues surrounding affordable housing, protecting the environment and fiscal responsibility.

“The issues affecting our community are complex and they need to be addressed holistically and approached with long-term solutions in mind,” she wrote.

She is the treasurer of the Latino Caucus and is a member of Thurston County Democrats and Thurston County Women Democrats.

Davis became the center of controversy this year after multiple women accused him of making “creepy” remarks to them at local churches when they were girls. One accusation involved Davis making a point of trying to find a “child bride.”

One accuser, Marya Wargacki, said she was harassed by Davis in church settings when she was 12.

Davis denied the allegations, saying he didn’t know his accusers.

In a later, unrelated matter, Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall ruled Davis registered to vote improperly. The ruling came after a complaint alleged Davis didn’t reside at the address listed on his registration documents.
