March 13-17 is Education Support Professionals Week for Olympia School District

Posted

Superintendent Patrick Murphy declared the third week of March as Education Support Professionals Week during the regular meeting of the Olympia School District last February 23.

Education support professionals are the staff connected with schools that do not practice teaching-related jobs. Some of the specific staff falling under this category are those who:

  • Maintain buildings and grounds;
  • Prepare and serve meals;
  • Keep school facilities clean and orderly;
  • Assist in the classroom;
  • Perform and conduct research activities;
  • Provide information technology and media services,
  • Administrative support functions such as safe transportation and a secure and healthy environment;
  • Other specialized services

“We have more than 700 education support professionals in our district, and their contributions are essential and critically important to the success of our students,” Murphy announced.

The proclamation called the support professionals crucial partners of teachers, parents, administrators, and school boards as they support the learning environment.

“Thank you so much for being a part of our school district. We know how important you are, and you should have a whole year, not just a week,” OSD President Darcy Huffman said.

The proclamation document can be found here.
