A death investigation was started at approximately 1 a.m. today after someone called 9-1-1 to report finding the body of an adult male under the Fourth Avenue Bridge in downtown Olympia.

“He was a white male, an adult, but we can’t estimate if he was 30, 40 or 50,” according to Lt. Paul Lower of the Olympia Police Department, who added, “we believe he died less than 24 hours before being discovered.”

The location where the man was found is immediately north of the homeless encampment on the Deschutes Parkway adjacent to Capitol Lake. “The man is known to be a homeless individual,” according to Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock.

As of 6:30 p.m. today, no information was available about the man’s identity or cause of death.
