A 24-year-old man was arrested Thu., Oct. 7., on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the body that was discovered under the Fourth Avenue Bridge in downtown Olympia earlier this week.

Initial information from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the suspect is a maintenance worker.

The suspect was scheduled to make a preliminary appearance before the Thurston County Superior Court on Friday afternoon, Oct. 8.

Victim has been identified

Meanwhile, the victim has been identified as 47-year-old Patrick O’Neil, Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock told The JOLT.

Warnock previously said the victim was known to be homeless.

A death investigation was launched on Tue., Oct. 5., after someone called 9-1-1 to report that they had found a body of an adult male.

“He was a white male, an adult, but we can’t estimate if he was 30, 40 or 50,” according to Lt. Paul Lower of the Olympia Police Department, who added, “we believe he died less than 24 hours before being discovered.”

Authorities have yet to release other details of the crime, including the results of toxicology reports.
