After the COVID pandemic caused the complete cancellation of the 2020 festival and forced a diminished 2021 festival, the Capitalarians are back in force again.
Beginning one week from today and running until July 17, there will be plenty of opportunities for us to enjoy the fresh air, yummy food, lovely arts and crafts -- and rides for all ages.
Your choice of family picnics or other delights like cold drinks and grilled burgers await. Live entertainment and educational opportunities will also be presented.
Other events include the Lakefair Races, featuring a half-marathon, 3k, 8k, and kids running races, the 43rd annual Capital Lakefair Volleyball Tournament, Capitol Lake Pub Crawl, The Lakefair Grand Parade on Saturday and a great fireworks display on Sunday.
Next Friday: 50+ in the Park
One of the best chances for our age group to learn more about what is available to us in a variety of services including senior housing and care options, long-term care, elder law and more will be held on Friday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by the Senior Action Network – the Lakefair 50+ event.
For over 20 years, the Friday of Lakefair has been “Senior Day” - a time to play games, listen to some great music, and socialize with friends at the same time, pick up information and resources that may help all of us as we age.
Sponsoring this annual event is the Senior Action Network, a local network of businesses that serve older residents in Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties. All vendors at 50+ in the Park are members of SAN and all of them will have lots of giveaways as well as prizes for the various games attendees are encouraged to play!
The day will begin with a great Zumba warm-up session led by Krystal Apple of Assured Home Health. Following that, local Adult Family Home advocate (and Executive Director of the AFH Council) John Ficker will entertain with “Mother Ficker’s Sons & Guest” until 10:30 when the next act, local favorite Entertainment Explosion, steps on stage.
Finally, the headline act for Lakefair 50+ in the Park is Naomi Morgan Entertainment’s “Memphis Belles” performing their USO Summer Tour.
SAN welcomes all seniors in our area to stop by Heritage Park on Friday, July 15th to meet the members of the Senior Action Network and enjoy the terrific entertainment on offer.

It's time to change the name of "Lakefair". There is no "lake" - it's a drowned estuary in it's dying throes. How about a public contest for a new name. Maybe "Fest-uary"! Or "Inlet Days". Or "Steh-Chass Potlatch". Let's stop fooling ourselves that there's a lake there and find a new name!

Let's fix the lake. Otherwise, it will go back to the ugly stinky mess it used to be. Hence, it was fixed in the past. So many seem to have no institutional knowledge of this, have forgot or do not care. I hope we fix it.
