The story follows six city-dwellers basking on a silent retreat in the woods to find refuge from their chaotic lives.
As the group seeks peace, each character struggles with profound and laughably absurd inner dilemmas.
“The silence becomes both a challenge and a mirror, reflecting the universal desire for connection and understanding. Infused with tender humor, the play explores how we confront life’s biggest questions when words are not an option,” a SPSCC press release stated.
The cast list includes Kimberlee Wolfson, Sara Thiessen, Debe Eden, Mike Gregory, Jae Pack, Jeremy Holien and SPSCC student Chloe Swanson.
SPSCC students also engage behind the scenes. Raessa Patterson is the assistant director, Marisol Stsesltzner is the stage manager, and Emily Cole as Props/Set Crew.
“The winter production in the Black Box gives us the opportunity to produce an intimate play. Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds gives us space to reflect together on our human foibles, our search for meaning, and our place in a wide, chaotic world,” said SPSCC Drama Professor Dr. Lauren Love in the press release.
“Though it is a short piece, it is both funny and profound, filled with richly drawn characters who take difficult journeys. It pokes gentle fun and also shows compassion for these characters so that we can poke gentle fun at ourselves and show compassion for one another,” Love added.
A suggested $12 donation is at the door for individuals not affiliated with SPSCC.
