Housing aid for first responders, teachers HELPER Act officially added to Lacey’s 2023 Federal Legislative Priorities

Posted

The Lacey City Council unanimously voted to add the Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act to the city’s adopted 2023 Federal Legislative Priorities.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development administers the HELPER Act, which creates a program to provide mortgage assistance to law enforcement officers, elementary and secondary school teachers, firefighters, or other first responders.

According to the bill, the said individuals may be “for a one-time mortgage on a primary family residence with no down payment and no monthly mortgage insurance premium.”

As a background, the city council already voted on the legislation during last year’s December 15 meeting, but without a formal motion, so the vote was not recorded.

“I don’t think any of us noticed, we took a vote on it, but nobody noticed that there was never a motion on the floor for that,” said councilmember Lenny Greenstein. “That was very bizarre.”

Lacey’s 2023 Federal Legislative Priorities include three community projects, two future projects and seven policy positions.

The community projects include the College Street Corridor Safety Improvement Project, Emergency Operations Center Project, and Septic-to-Sewer Conversion Program.

The Lacey Museum and Cultural Center in Depot District and the Early Child and Youth Learning Center are the two future projects of the city.

For the policy positions, the city agreed to support the following:

  • I-5 Corridor from Tumwater to Mounts Road and the Nisqually River Delta
  • Puget Save Our Sound (SOS) Act
  • Build America, Buy America
  • National Housing and Homeless Outreach Strategy to Help Communities Address an Ongoing and Growing Crisis of Unsheltered Populations
  • Defense Community Infrastructure Program Continued Support of Community Programs, such as Community Development Block Grant Program, COPS Grant, and Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act

For all of you that still think that COVID IS STILL ENFORCED!!

    ITS OVER! OVER OVER!

and I think that everyone has had enough of all you people who think we need some kind of "" Act""to aid in housing. . for first responders medical and everyone else you people want to crown holy!

Firstly, YOU HAVE CAUSED EVEN MORE HARM AND FOUL IN THE GREATER THURSTON COUNTY BY SCREWING WITH YET ANOTHER ONSLAUGHT OF FEDERAL HOUSING FUNDS THAT Were SUPPOSED TO GO TO THE HOMELESS. But you found every excuse under the sun to foil any of that happening! The miss appropriation of funding MUST STOP NOW ... that's stealing... That's Fraud! And you are NOT ASSISTING YOUR COMMUNITY EITHER!

FIRST YOU ALL MUST GIVE BACK TO THE HOMELESS AND THE HOUSING Challenged IN YOUR Communities... YOU DO... U ARE INDEBTED TO THEM NOW.... How can you sit there with a clean conscious now and want to vote on some ACT TO HELP FIRST RESPONDERS WHEN YOU CHEAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, TAKE THE FUNDING THAT WAS PROVIDED TO A SPECIFIED GROUP OF PEOPLE..

THEN JUST TO Provide AND VOTE AN "ACT" THAT KEEPS YOUR PRIVATE SPECIAL PEOPLE HOUSED...

THATS NOT THE WAY ANYTHING WORKS...

    I HOPE THEY TAKE FEDERAL

FUNDING AWAY PERMANENTLY FROM ALL YOU THIEVES AND FED FUNDING MISS Appropriators... FOR GOOD..

THEY NEED TO GIVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE PEOPLE AND CROSS ALL YOUR NAMES OUT! FOR GOOD!
