The City of Lacey is preparing to open Greg J. Cuoio Community Park later this year.
The city announced on Thursday, Oct. 30, that construction is progressing as the main features move toward completion. The park, located at 2711 Carpenter Road. NE, aims to serve both active and passive recreation, as well as protect nearby forests, wildlife habitat and water resources.
According to the city, finishing work is underway on a large picnic shelter that features 12 picnic tables for gatherings, celebrations and casual use.
“The playground is also taking shape with nature-themed play structures and soft, synthetic turf for safe, year-round fun,” the city said.
The city also pointed to the trail system as a key element.
“One of the park’s main highlights will be its extensive trail system, winding through scenic wooded areas filled with mature trees, lush ferns, and local wildlife,” the city said.

Greg came from Kennewick as their assistant City Manager many years ago. I knew him at the time and suggested that the City of Lacey was in chaos at the time and it may not be a good fit. I am glad he ignored my advice, came and was an outstanding leader for the City of Lacey. Thank you, Greg, for providing quality and creative leadership for the citizens of Lacey. The park is a nice tribute to your leadership. The citizens if Lacey and Thurston County all benefit from your leadership.

Thank you, Bobwubbena, for explaining a little bit about who Greg Cuoio was to those of us living in Lacey without a clue as to his identity. This Jolt article should have included some information about the person for whom the park was named for.
