Many sites in Thurston County continue to offer free COVID-19 testing for anyone interested, as part of the federal government’s fight against the pandemic.

Now a new federal program, free at-home testing, is gaining steam, with already 47 million visitors checking in on its site, according to data from analytics.usa.gov, a government website that reports traffic on federal websites. The program offers up to four at-home tests per address for those who request them at covidtests.gov.

Thurston County Public Health and Social Services reported testing 254,159 people for the virus as of Sept. 15, 2021, before suspending updates until Feb. 22 this year. The county department reports that they “will work to increase its capacity to process the increased testing data volume received in the last few months.”

As of yesterday, the county reports 34,152 confirmed COVID cases: of which 26,147 recovered, 1,648 hospitalized and 259 died.

Washington State Department of Health reports that 5,640,849 Washingtonians, or 78.3% age five and up already have their first vaccine dose against the disease, with 5,126,371 or 71.1% already completed their two shots.
