Four suspects were apprehended during protests on behalf of Daunte Wright last Friday, April 16 in West Olympia. One of them identified as a member of the press.

Daunte Wright was the 20-year-old black man who was killed on April 11 by police during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.  Media reports have listed protests in dozens of cities across the United States to bring attention to Wright's killing.

The Olympia protest included 20-30 individuals according to police estimates. Protesters tagged several buildings throughout the Capital Mall area. They wore all black, some wearing masks and carrying flares.  "Multiple businesses were spray painted on Capital Mall Dr.," according to the police report.

Miguel Lofland, 21; Helen Cultee, 21; Miranda Hoyle-Dodson, 30; Breanna Kilbourne, 21; Simeon Rivers, 23 were all charged with failure to disperse by the Olympia Police Department and placed in Olympia City Jail.

One of the Olympia Police reports specifically mentions that Miguel Lofland was a known suspect, as he repeatedly flipped off the officer several times and was seen as part of the protest. Another police report said that Lofland was known from over 90 similar protests over the past 12 months. Olympia Police also stated that he is believe to be one of the protest’s chief organizers. Recovered during a search of Lofland was a holstered Bear Mace can of pepper spray on his right hip.

Olympia Police did recover a white laminated card on the shoulder of the 9th Ave SW area of Capital Mall. It read “Antifa News Network” with what the police report called a “fake barcode at the bottom.” The badge showed “PRESS PASS” with a photograph and the name of “Miguel Louis” on the front. One police report commented that the press pass was “homemade” and “obviously fake.”  An internet search yielded five "by Miguel Lofland" bylines since 2017, including a video that appeared on The Olympian's website on Sept. 1, 2020.

Lofland told Olympia Police while in custody that he was “tackled” during his arrest. Police reports contradict this, by stating that Lofland got onto the ground when ordered, and laid on his stomach with his hands behind his back without incident when officers went to arrest him.

Breanna Kilbourne was witnessed by Olympia Police spray painting “ACAB” on the wall of the Big Lots store at 2815 Capital Mall Dr SW, and was chased down into the woods behind the store.

According to police reports, Killbourn immediately started crying and saying “I didn’t do anything wrong” and “I was just walking through here.” Police had recovered a pair of car keys that Killbourn had tossed previously, asking for the keys to be returned as “I need to get my keys back to my friend, she has work tomorrow.” Killbourn was also charged with malicious mischief. When booked, officers found a blade knife in their left pocket.

Helen Cultee and Miranda Hoyle-Dodson were in a 2007 Toyota Corolla which stopped in the roadway leading to the Capitol Mall parking lot. Hoyle-Dodson wore gas mask and goggles when detained by Olympia Police. While en route to the jail, both Cultee and Hoyle-Dodson began coughing loudly. One of them started retching, throwing up, then stated that they had motion sickness.

Simeon Rivers was apprehended by officers trying to outrun a patrol car through the Capital Mall parking lot.
