FC Olympia to hold open tryouts in February

Posted
FC Olympia announced on its website that it will hold its annual USL open soccer tryouts for  men and women on Feb. 8-9 at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

The announcement came after the completion of the club’s hiring of Jason Prenovost as the club’s technical director, along with the appointment of Seyti Sidibay and Kellyn Green as the USL men’s and women’s team coaches, respectively.

“My favorite thing about this level of USL soccer are the players,” Prenovost said. “Their excitement and energy to make a USL squad is contagious and drives you to give everything you have to aid in their success.”

Last year, FC Olympia’s trial featured 100 athletes vying for a path-to-pro opportunity. One of those trialists was Peyton Chick, a Western Washington University graduate, who was then selected to be part of FC Olympia's USL women's squad and ended up starting in the USL W League national playoffs in the club’s win over pro-owned soccer club Oakland Soul.

“This club is constantly raising the bar for women’s soccer. FC Olympia is truly invested in its players and the women’s game," Green said.

"Our staff and leadership work tirelessly to give the players the best and most professional experience possible in the USL W.”

Sidibay echoed those sentiments.

“USL League Two (USL2) offers players the platform to showcase their talent,” Sidibay said. “I want to be a part of their journey, especially those who want to become professional athletes. USL is a great path for such aspirations.”

The tryout will also feature expanded programming based on Thurston County's player population, which could include the Artesian teams competing in the Cascadia Premier League in the women’s division and the Evergreen Premier League in the men’s division.

High school-age boys and girls from youth clubs like Thurston County United and Blackhills FC are also encouraged to try out and compete at a high level at a very young age.

Those players can get a chance to make the USL's team player pool, and make network connections to try and earn college scholarships and undergo professional scouting.

People interested in trying out can register here for the men’s and women’s tryouts.
