This summer, the Estuarium is participating in the A Community Thrives fundraising initiative. A Community Thrives is a grantmaking and crowdfunding program from the USA Today Network. The initiative is part of the Gannett Foundation and supports nonprofit organizations with projects focused on community building. Through fundraising challenges and related grant funds, A Community Thrives helps bring its community-improvement ideas to life.
If the Estuarium is able to raise $3,000 by August 12th they will qualify to potentially receive grant funding from the pool of 2 million available funds!
This year they have applied for funding to support their internships as their organization grows in its service to south sound communities and allows us to pay speakers who share their expertise through their exhibits and programs.
Right now, they have two seasonal internships that they would like to fund year-round. Historically, they have asked STEM professionals to donate the time it takes them to present and prepare their presentations for their DSS events. However, for fall and winter 2022/2023, they are working to build the capacity to begin paying their guest DSS speakers and presenters in a concerted effort to bring more equity to their programs.
