A 63-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after speeding in his minivan and slamming the brakes hard enough to jerk the vehicle forward, right in front of a police car stopped at the adjacent lane of the intersection on Sun., July 11 just before midnight.
Bryan A. Corriveau of Tumwater was stopped and was observed not wearing his seat belt. According to the police report, Corriveau handed over his license, registration and insurance, and smelt of alcohol. Corriveau allegedly told police that “I had a beer, about 45 minutes ago.”
When arrested for driving under the influence, Corriveau became uncooperative and rude at times, interrupting the officer reading him the DUI packet multiple times and stating multiple times that he wasn’t going to conduct the breathalzyer.
Police spoke with a judge at 1:30 a.m. and secured a blood search warrant, then transported Corriveau to Capital Medical Center for a blood draw.
While waiting for the laboratory assistant at Capital Medical Center, Corriveau allegedly admitted to the officer that he had purchased a bottle of liquor from a grocery store and “shouldn’t have been driving.” He then apologized for being uncooperative and stated, “I shouldn’t just blown in the machine.”
Corriveau was booked into the Olympia Jail for driving under the influence.
