In the latest round of election results, Thurston County Commissioner for District 2, Gary Edwards, continued pulling ahead of challenger Michael Steadman. Edwards' advantage is just over one percent.
The race between Edwards and Steadman kicked off with Steadman, a Lacey City Council member, leading the former Thurston County sheriff by approximately five percentage points. Edwards has been incrementally shortening the lead ever since, officially pulling ahead over the weekend.
Edwards now leads by 1,561 votes. He sits at 50.31 percent to Steadman’s 49.26. There are approximately 3,300 ballots remaining to be counted.
Voter turnout was accounted for the general election last week was 81.31%.
