Thurston County commissioners approved a request to temporarily close down Country Club Road NW at Green Cove Creek for three weeks.

During the regular Board of County Commissioners  (BOCC) meeting on Tue., Oct. 19, Thurston County Associate Engineer Marcus Storvick shared that they will temporarily close down Country Club Road for emergency repairs.

Located just off of Cooper Point Road NW, Country Club Road provides access to over 800 vehicles each day. The road goes through the Green Cove Creek, which is considered a highly valued watershed and is home to several anadromous fish populations, including Coho, Steelhead Trout, and Chinook Salmon.

The road closure will cover a period of 21 days starting from Sat., Oct. 23 to Tue. Nov. 30. Storvick shared that the emergency repairs were a result of a damaged culvert. He explained that the culvert had deteriorated in the past 12 to 18 months and is in serious need of repair. “With the culvert to collapse, it will affect the integrity of the road and could partially or fully block Green Cove Creek.”

Storvick explained that the temporary road closure is the most practical and least expensive solution to the damaged culvert. He noted that the maximum delay for motorists coming from the North of the closure is at four minutes. In addition, emergency access will be given to ambulances and residents.
