Comments about Capital Medical Center in The JOLT's Thurston County Trivia

Posted

In your Thurston County Trivia today you asked about the westside hospital. You referenced Capital Medical Center.

Actually it was started in 1984, with construction into 1985. The original name was Black Hills Community Hospital. I know because I worked on the signage for the newly constructed  hospital. It was owned by HC, Inc. a large hospital corporation.

Then a couple of years later it was sold to HealthTrust hospital company, and renamed Capital Medical Center. It was under this owner that the expansion took place with renovations and a new 4 story building which was named Physicians Pavilion. I was fortunate to have done the signage for the hospital for 20 yrs.

HCA corporation bought it back and further renovations took place. It's been a long time, and I may have the chronological order mixed, but the hospital and nearby Medical Park has since expanded into other buildings in the surrounding area. It also had satellite clinics built or opened in other towns such as Montesano, Elma, Raymond and one other town I forget. It was to compete
with St. Peter for outlying patient business. I also produced and installed the signage for these clinics as well.

It was the hospital that my oldest daughter gave birth to my youngest
granddaughter. I will always be indebted to the hospital for all the work it supplied me, and the friendships I had with the employees, doctors and staff.
