For nearly three decades of service, veteran truck driver Phil Aasen received a City of Lacey Certificate of Achievement.

During the regular city council meeting yesterday, Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder awarded the certificate to Aasen in recognition of his services. The mayor also thanked Aasen, and other truck drivers who were able to maintain the supply chain and food distribution throughout the country, despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.

The truck driver, who is working with Harbor Wholesale Foods, was also recently inducted as a member of the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) Truck Driver Hall of Fame, which is considered as one of the highest recognitions in the industry. The award was given by the IFDA to Aasen and other professional drivers who were able to maintain outstanding records of service and safety. Throughout his career, Aasen has driven 800,000 accident-free miles, similar to driving 32 times around the world.

In a statement, the mayor explained, “Just a quick background, truck drivers at Harbor Wholesaledrive an average of 120 miles per day or well over 30,000 miles a year.” Ryder explained that their annual mileage is equivalent to driving around the circumference of the world.

Harbor Wholesale, established in 1923, is one of the largest food distributors in the Northwest region. In his work, Aasen is tasked to deliver products for convenience stores, neighborhood markets and quick serve restaurants.

Justin Erickson, CEO of  Harbor Wholesale also recognized Aasen’s valuable contribution to the company. “We are fortunate to have leaders like Phil to set the example for what it means to be an awesome professional driver,” Erickson said.
